Where is your Doppelgänger?

The idea of a doppelgänger, or identical look-alike, is something I’ve read about, heard about, and thought about—so much so that it sparked the idea for A FACE TO DIE FOR. What could be more fascinating than the existence of another human being who is your “identical stranger” living somewhere else in the world right […]

Butterflies in My Stomach on Release Day

It’s May 17th and that means that THE MURDER THAT NEVER WAS is officially on sale! With that comes excitement, anticipation, joy… and more butterflies in my stomach than you can count. You’d think I’d be over that extreme reaction. After 27 published novels, you’d think that the release of a new book would bring […]

Why I Can’t Write a First Draft

I’m often asked how long it takes me to write a first draft. The answer? I’ve never written one. Let’s start with the basics. Every author’s writing process is different. Some write detailed outlines. Others let their muse carry them in the direction that feels right. Many set a daily word count for themselves, not […]

About The Book

Lady Samantha Barrett is determined to find the man of her dreams. Of course, he must be devastatingly handsome and just a bit dangerous. Now, her coach is filled with a collection of gothic novels and her head with romantic notions as she eagerly leaves her brother's country estate for her first London Season. Still unsophisticated and too innocent by far, Samantha is ill-prepared for the hypocrisy of the ton or for the formidable stranger who crosses her path-a stranger she is sure must be her long-awaited hero...

Remington Worth, the Earl of Gresham, is reputed to be anything but a hero. He is, however, intrigued by the fresh, young Lady Samantha. At sea, Remington had been a brilliant captain. To help save his country, he has become the Crown's most deadly and dedicated covert agent, posing as a notorious womanizer and blackmailer. His latest orders are to investigate the mysterious disappearances of England's prized merchant vessels. He will allow no one to get in his way or touch his heart-until Samantha.

Read The Excerpt

"When will you stop viewing me as a child?"

"I never viewed you as a child, imp. A very beautiful, very romantic distraction, perhaps; but never a child."

"You know what I mean. I'm certainly chaste and untutored compared to your other women."

Rem chuckled. "A very forthright distraction."

"Please don't patronize me, Remington. One needn't frequent a brothel like Annie's to know they exist. What I don't understand is, why do you frequent them? I want to understand what draws you to a woman. Is it experience? Then why do you object to my gaining some?"

"Because you're not like Annie's girls."

"If I became like them, then would you want me?"

Rem knocked their drinks to the ground and caught Sammy's face between his hands. "Is that what this is all about? You don't think I want you?"

"Do you?"

"So much it terrifies me."

Sammy stepped closer. "Show me."

"I'm not sure I'll be able to stop."

"Oh, Rem..." With a dreamy sigh, she twined her arms about his neck. "Don't you know by now that I don't want you to stop?"
